Project of sustainable management of the Green -Sahel sites in the far north region (Cameroon)

3,000 hectares of degraded land in the far north regionof Cameroon are currently being reforested, particularly in the municipalities of Kaele and Doukoula. The project has received financial support of Cuso Internatioal. ABIOGeT is seeking new partners who will help it to achieve the goal of 500,000 native species to be planted and to integrate the carbon offsets aspect in the project. A multi-resource inventory and mapping of reforestation sites will be realized by Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD)  in order to determine which species to plant. Riparian communities reforestation sites and the two councils are the beneficiaries of the project.

Learning Tree project

This pilot project is jointly funded by a family in Quebec and ABIOGeT. This is the family-Nathalie Larochelle. The project has a duration of 24 months. The goal of the project is to support the education of children from disadvantaged families through ecological actions planting and maintenance of trees in the department of Mayo-Danay (Far North Cameroon). Didim village in the municipality of Kai-Kai is chosen as a pilot project site.

Context:

In many regions of the far north of Cameroon, access to national education, although free and guaranteed by the government, is simply not available. The solution put forth by communities solution is to hire themselves a teacher and require tuition to families who wish to educate their children.  In many cases, the family budget is already insufficient to provide essential basic needs of the family, just do not allow it.  Children are to be kept at home or assigned to various work and sometimes abandoned to themselves.

Objective:

Provide financial support to poor children in the area of the far north of Cameroon so that they could go to school.

Solution:

The joint involvement of everyone and ABIOGeT could make a difference for many children.

"Educating a child is to save a life!" (C. Sofalne, 2013).
